Giandomenico Basso, one of the most successful active Italian rally drivers, is experiencing a golden moment in his 2025 campaign. He is currently leading the overall standings in the Italian Rally Championship, with three victories out of five rounds already completed. Wearing Bell Racing helmets and OMP racewear, Basso claimed victory in the season opener – Rally Il Ciocco e Valle del Serchio – followed by consecutive triumphs at the Rally 2 Valli and the Rally di Roma Capitale, which also counted towards the European Championship.
“I especially cared about winning in Rome,” Giandomenico tells us. “I really wanted to celebrate another success in the European Championship.” It’s a fitting goal for someone who boasts two FIA ERC titles and a crown from the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. “Whenever I had the chance, I liked to compete outside of Italy. Going up against globally renowned rivals has always been a pleasure and an honor, and it was great to meet them again after a few years.”
Since 2024, the Italian driver has been wearing Bell Racing helmets and was among the first to adopt the innovative Wired-Wireless technology developed by Zeronoise – another Racing Force Group brand. The system allows driver and co-driver to communicate wirelessly both inside and outside the car. Last year, Basso and co-driver Lorenzo Granai made history by scoring the first win for the Wired-Wireless system at Rally Regione Piemonte, and followed it up with another victory at Rallye Sanremo. On that occasion, the cable-free technology proved to be crucial.

“We were tackling the final special stage at night when we had a technical issue. There was barely any time left,” Giandomenico remembers. “In the dark, we jumped out of the car without taking off our helmets, and called the team. Meanwhile, Lorenzo and I could still talk to each other while receiving instructions on how to fix the problem by phone. We managed to get going again and made it to the start just in time, avoiding a penalty.”
“The Wired-Wireless system is incredibly practical_ you don’t have to worry about the cable getting caught, moving around, or getting damaged or worn out,” Basso emphasizes. “And the sound is perfect – crystal clear with no dropouts.”
It’s also a point of pride for us at Bell Racing, especially when looking back at how the partnership began. “I was a bit hesitant to change helmet suppliers, as it’s such a sensitive object,” he admits. “I care a lot about weight, head protection, and audio quality, because in rallying, things can go wrong. However, once I tried it, I was incredibly surprised. The helmet felt extremely well-balanced, almost like I wasn’t wearing one. I didn’t need to change a thing – not even the interior padding.”
Giandomenico is also highly satisfied with his OMP racewear: “The material is technically advanced – lightweight, breathable, and comfortable,” he confirms. “I’m someone who pays close attention to fabric quality, even in my everyday clothing, and with OMP I found exactly what I was looking for.”
The Italian Rally Championship – one of the most prestigious and demanding national series in the discipline – will conclude with two final events: the Rally del Lazio (September 11–13) and the Rallye Sanremo (October 17–19), with Basso and Granai ready to make their final push for the title.
